The KEK Summer Student Program 2025 offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate and master’s students to participate in cutting-edge research in high-energy physics, accelerator science, and material & life sciences. Hosted by KEK (High Energy Accelerator Research Organization) and J-PARC, this program allows students to work under the mentorship of leading researchers in Japan.
The fully funded program for international students covers airfare, accommodation, daily allowance, and domestic travel. Participants will conduct hands-on research at KEK Tsukuba or J-PARC Tokai for up to 8 weeks, gaining valuable experience in experimental and theoretical physics.

Exclusions of the Undergraduate and Masters Research Program
- Visa and Medical Insurance costs are NOT covered.
- No financial support for personal trips or extended stays.
- Only undergraduate (final years) and master’s students are eligible (No Ph.D. students).
- Students must be fluent in English or Japanese.
- Radiation-controlled areas are restricted (only accessible to students registered as radiation workers).
Eligibility Criteria for Engineering and Physics Internships in Japan 2025
To apply, candidates must:
- Be a final-year undergraduate or master’s student (Not PhD) as of March 1, 2025.
- Have studied physics (dynamics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, etc.).
- Be proficient in English or Japanese.
- Be interested in accelerator science, particle physics, or material science.
- Be available to stay in Japan for up to 8 weeks (June – August 2025).
- Obtain a recommendation letter from a professor.
🔔 Note: Students currently enrolled in Ph.D. programs are NOT eligible for this program.

How to Apply for KEK Summer Student Program 2025
Follow these steps to submit your application:
- Register on the KEK Summer Program Registration Portal
- You will receive an ID Number via email after registration.
- Email the following documents to kekssp-app@ml.post.kek.jp (Subject: [KEKSSP Application, ID=XXX])
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Official Academic Transcript (with an English or Japanese translation if necessary)
- Completed Application Form (Download from the KEK website)
- Recommendation Letter (Must be sent directly by a professor/supervisor)
- All files must be in PDF format and under 5MB in size.
- Applications that miss required documents will not be considered.
Selection Process for KEK Summer Student Program 2025
- The evaluation committee assesses applications based on academic performance, research interest, and motivation.
- The selection committee may conduct interviews via video call if necessary.
- The committee will announce the selection results by April 30, 2025.
