Eligibility Criteria for the Paid Internships in Japan
- Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students.
- JSPS scholars, MEXT scholars, and JST scholars are not eligible for financial support.
- Required Documents:
- Student Application Form: Completed form for NIMS Internship Program (in English).
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): Updated and written in English.
- Student Enrollment Certificate: Issued within the last 3 months (in English).
- Academic Transcript: Official transcript in English.
- Master’s and doctoral students must provide their undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
How to Apply for International Research Internships in Japan
- Visit the NIMS Researchers Directory Service “SAMURAI” to identify a suitable researcher.
- Note: Positions like ICYS Research Fellow or NIMS Postdoctoral Researcher do not accept interns.
- Email the preferred researcher with the required application documents.
- If the researcher agrees, they will request a reference letter from your academic supervisor.
- The researcher will review your application and, if approved, forward your documents to the Graduate Program Section, Academic Collaboration Office.
- The researcher will communicate the results.
- NIMS will finalize the start and end dates of the internship in consultation with the researcher.

- You can only submit applications through NIMS researchers, as the program will not process documents sent from other sources.
- Ensure all documents are complete and accurate.
- The program does not guarantee financial support for all applicants.
