Eligibility Criteria for the Paid Internships in Japan

  1. Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students.
  2. JSPS scholars, MEXT scholars, and JST scholars are not eligible for financial support.
  3. Required Documents:
    • Student Application Form: Completed form for NIMS Internship Program (in English).
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV): Updated and written in English.
    • Student Enrollment Certificate: Issued within the last 3 months (in English).
    • Academic Transcript: Official transcript in English.
      • Master’s and doctoral students must provide their undergraduate and graduate transcripts.

How to Apply for International Research Internships in Japan

  • Visit the NIMS Researchers Directory Service “SAMURAI” to identify a suitable researcher.
  • Note: Positions like ICYS Research Fellow or NIMS Postdoctoral Researcher do not accept interns.
  • Email the preferred researcher with the required application documents.
  • If the researcher agrees, they will request a reference letter from your academic supervisor.
  • The researcher will review your application and, if approved, forward your documents to the Graduate Program Section, Academic Collaboration Office.
  • The researcher will communicate the results.
  • NIMS will finalize the start and end dates of the internship in consultation with the researcher.

  • You can only submit applications through NIMS researchers, as the program will not process documents sent from other sources.
  • Ensure all documents are complete and accurate.
  • The program does not guarantee financial support for all applicants.
